Directory Submission
Sunday, September 7th, 2008So you’ve made a site on the base of Outrix Affiliate Program, now don’t forget to add your game site to the catalogues. If you don’t know what the catalogues of sites (they are also called directories) are it will be useful for you to read this article. The directories of sites have been made almost since the Internet’s birth, as a striking example, the Yahoo Directory can be given. At the moment there are lots of the directories both on special and common subjects. The utility of them for usual internet user is questionable, because nowadays we use search engines for retrieval. But in this case we(as the site owners) are interested in the directories as an opportunity to get greater number of incoming links(also known as back links) to our sites.
First, you should know that there are free directories and paid ones. A fixed sum of money should be paid for getting into paid directories. It could be a nonrecurrent fee (it means that your site will be included in the directory forever), or it can be an annual fee. You can get into the Yahoo directory for free, but your site should be unique enough. There is also a paid way to get to the Yahoo: it will cost you $299 annually.
We are going to take up here only free of charge directories, as paid ones is a separate topic, which will be examined in one of our next articles.
Free directories in its turn are subdivided into 2 groups depending on the fact if the back link from your site is required or not. We would strongly recommend you to add your site to the directories that don’t require back links, as this is the way of obtaining incoming links, as if to say, for free, except for costs on the process of submission. And it is up to you to decide what to do with the rest of the directories.
According to the practice, 99% of free directories do not bring you any visitors; however the submission should be done for getting the links. Search engines take account only of direct incoming links to your site, that’s why the more direct links you have, the better. Indirect links from the directories, which pass through different scripts, redirects and so on, are not so interesting for us.
Search engines also take into account the text of the links itself leading to your site. That’s why we recommend you to make up unique texts for every directory or at least try to create as many different variants of the texts as possible.
Let’s consider the process of submission. There are special programs and services on submission of the sites to directories. These programs and services provide you with some base of directories for submission and offer you to buy larger bases separately. You can use both free and paid bases, or make your own base.
The only thing we don’t recommend is to use fully automatic submission – this method is ineffective as a rule.
We would also advise you to make an individual email address for a submission which you will leave while adding a site to a directory, as lots of spam will be sent to this email afterwards.
We’ll try to tell you about the programs and services on submission and paid directories as well in our next topics.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to write us.
